Professor Stephen Kuusisto was a Fulbright scholar in Helsinki in 1981, and also spent a year in the Finnish capital as a child. A poet, author, university professor and disability advocate, he has been blind since birth, and writes about his experiences in Eavesdropping: A Memoir of Blindness and Listening (2006).
